Inhibition of the Mutagenic Effects of Sulfatiazole-nitrite Mixture by L-ascorbic Acid and Green Tea

چکیده

INTRODUCTION The concept of chemoprevention (use of natural or synthetic compounds to prevent cancers) has great appeal. N-nitroso compounds are mutagens which can be formed in vivo due to the reaction between amides and/or amines with nitrite (1). L-ascorbic acid (asc.) and green tea polyphenols can react with nitrite diminishing or removing the nitrosation risk. Sulfonamides, widely used by their properties, present potential risk of nitrosation in stomach because the presence of these functions. In the present work we assay the chemopreventive action of asc. and green tea as antimutagens (AM) on the mutagenicity of a reaction mixture (RM) formed by sodium sulfathiazole (NaST) and NaNO2 in acidic medium, whose mutagenicity was previously proved by us (2).

Evaluation of Mutagenic Potentials of Some Food Additives by Ames Test

Some chemicals used by human such as food additives are mutagenic and mutagenicity effects analysis of them is very important because of considerable consumption by man. One of the most common methods used in the recognition of the chemicals' mutagenicity is Salmonella Typhimurium Reverse Mutation (Ames) test. The purpose of the present study is mutagenicity effects analysis of sodium nitrite, ...

Potent suppressive effect of green tea polyphenols on tobacco-induced mutagenicity.

Antimutagenic activity of green tea (Camellia sinensis) was studied using Salmonella typhimurium strains (TA 102) (Ames test). Aqueous tobacco extract was found to be mutagenic to S. typhimurium TA 102 at concentration of 50 mg/plate. Green tea polyphenols was found to inhibit the mutagenicity of tobacco in a concentration-dependent manner. Concentrations needed for 50% inhibition of mutagen-in...

Inhibitory Effects of a Novel Nutrient Mixture on MMP Secretion and Invasion on Human Thyroid Cancer Cell Line SW 579

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. Mortality from thyroid cancer results from tumor invasion with local and distant metastases. Degradation of extracellular matrix is the hallmark of metastasis and is mediated by matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzymes. A novel Nutrient Mixture (NM) containing ascorbic acid, lysine, proline, and green tea extract has exhibited significant an...
